Screen Printer Cuts Up to 30 Mil Plastic on Weidhaas Crest
Processed Signs and Display Company, Inc Installs Crest 30x43
Problem Processed Signs & Display Company, Inc. (PSD Graphics) in Amsterdam, NY screen prints a variety of signs and displays. As their business grew, they received more and more requests to develop signs with heavier plastics. As part of the process, they frequently cut 10, 20 or up to 30 mil plastics in sheet sizes up to 30” x 43”. PSD Graphics had several old Thomson presses, but their presses could not cut through a full 30” x 43” sheet of 30 mil plastic. PSD Graphics needed a clamshell with greater tonnage than their Thomsons.
Solution PSD Graphics looked at a variety of clamshell presses, including a Thomson. Thomson told PSD Graphics that their presses would cut thick plastics, but added a surcharge to guarantee the increased tonnage. While examining his clamshell options, Mike Cesar, President of PSD Graphics learned about the Crest™ Clamshell with 135 working tons standard on every 30x43 Crest. He was familiar with Thomson from his other clamshell purchases, but the Crest press offered more tonnage at a lower price. This savvy businessman chose the Crest to cut his heavy-duty plastics.
Results The Crest Clamshell easily cuts through 10, 20, and 30 mil plastics for PSD Graphics. They specifically requested a press that could cut 30 mil plastic in a 30x43 sheet size, and the Crest has met their expectations. The Crest’s flat platen allows operators to maneuver large sheets of thick plastics quickly and safely while remaining flat under heavy loads. PSD Graphics’ production manager said the Crest is easy to operate and decreases make-ready times by 25% on average. The Crest Clamshell provides PSD Graphics with not only more tonnage, but also increased productivity and reduced material waste. |
