Cubbison Reduces 90 Minute Setups to Only 15 Minutes

Cubbison Company Installs Crest 22x28

Problem
Cubbison Company, a manufacturer of commercial and industrial graphic labeling products, needed a new press for kiss cutting, die cutting and embossing. They had a Thomson Valueline from the early ‘90's, but it no longer cut accurately and the operators struggled to set up and cut polycarbonates. Similar to many large facilities, Cubbison had many different operators running the press, and they needed a press that all of their operators could easily set up.

Solution
Cubbison tested their most difficult jobs on a Crest 30x43. “We were amazed that literally in 15 minutes, we were cutting jobs that took an hour and a half to set up,” said Mark Muehlbauer, Quality Manager. “We could easily cost justify the Crest because we knew any of our operators could set up the Crest with virtually no make ready and the press offered a quality cut every time.”

Results
Cubbison purchased the Crest 22x28, and a company trained about a dozen employees to efficiently setup the Crest. The old Thomson quickly became a memory. “We kept our Thomson in case our production exceeded the Crest, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to go back to it after running the Crest,” said Muehlbauer.

Cubbison noted that the Crest required less skill and finesse, and an operator without much training could set the Crest up in minutes. “I recently attended a DREC seminar on reducing your make ready, and I realized I didn't need any of the tips because we don't have any make ready with the Crest,” said Muehlbauer.

In addition to die cutting and kiss cutting, Cubbison also recently tested embossing on the Crest clamshell and in the words of their quality control manager, Cubbison “saw a 100% improvement.”
